Probably my best experience ever in Australia was a hot-air balloon ride at dawn over the outback!

Now, I know I have already written about flights to Australia and taking a baby, but I didn't cover everything — I am learning new things all the time — like how not all bassinets are the same!

I thought it would be useful to look up when the main Australian school holidays are, as these can have a big impact on booking a trip (usually in terms of accommodation being booked up, and resorts and roads being more busy).

We have got into the habit of always catching a taxi from the airport where ever we land now in an Australia city (unless we have a hire car), as is always the easiest option, I think, that will take you (and not all the other people on the transfer bus first!) direct to your accommodation — which after a long, long flight is really all you can think about...

Firstly, there cannot be a road by the beach. The perfect beach should be reached either through palm trees, sand dunes, climbing down a cliff, etc... but not be visible from a road. I just don't think you get that 'beach seclusion' just-me-and-the waves feel if there is traffic trundling by...

So you think — I'll just book the flights to Sydney and then we're off... but then you realise the Reef is a quite far away from Sydney, and you quite fancy seeing that too, and then there's the Rock (Uluru) to consider too... and everywhere else besides. So here's the plan...

Now, this is something that I talk myself round and round in circles about... on the one hand to have a really comfortable journey to Australia is obviously going to start your holiday off a lot better than how we normally arrive, but on the other hand it is SO much more expensive...

Usually meaning...when are the cheapest flights to Australia? But "when is the best time to visit?" is NOT the same as "when is the cheapest time to fly or visit?"...

Sounds totally gorgeous, and there are lots of other 'local' beaches to be discovered in Sydney, so don't think you have to make a beeline for Bondi when you go...

I am sure like anyone else who watched Jaws when they were little (or big!), you might have a certain amount of trepidation when swimming in the sea when you can't see your feet...

I realise this isn't a topic for everyone, but it's a question I get asked quite often (although usually more along the lines of a comment like "You took a baby all the way to Australia? Are you mad!")...
