Secret Sydney BeachLucky for a me a journalist for the Sunday Times has done all the hard work finding it! So probably not so secret now but given that it can only be reached by kayak, I reckon it will still be pretty tranquil when you get there — read about Store Beach here. Sounds totally gorgeous, and there are lots of other 'local' beaches to be discovered in Sydney, so don't think you have to make a beeline for Bondi when you go (especially not if you fancy a bit of sand to yourself!). I would say Bondi is like Brighton in the UK — if you like your beaches busy, then it's great on a steaming hot day if you don't mind the crowds, and are looking for a bit of fun, but you know there are countless less busy, stunningly situated, beautiful sandy beaches in lots of other locations if you make a little bit more effort to find them (and not necessarily in a kayak, I might add!). There's more about Sydney beaches here in this article which also has a link to a great slide show of 10 different Sydney beach photos — that really just make me want to jump on a plane right now! If you like your beaches, and you like your shopping, and nightlife, and gourmet restaurants, and museums, and parks, and of course iconic opera hosues and bridges, then you really can't go wrong with Sydney as a stop on your trip! It also makes you realise you don't have to travel elsewhere if your time is short, to fit in some relaxing and uncrowded beach time. I'm brushing up my paddling skills in time for our next trip!
