A lovely sunny day...
I am definitely a bit of a sun worshipper, but I am also a very sensible sun worshipper these days, and you should be too if you are planning a trip Down Under.
The very sensible 'Slip Slop Slap' slogan has been used for many years in Australia (geek fact — it started in 1981) and stands for Slip on a Shirt, Slop on some sun cream and Slap on a hat. They take their sun protection seriously in Australia, and rightly so for a nation that gets to bask in the lovely stuff a lot! We always buy our sun cream when we get to Australia as we know then it's made to suit the strong rays they receive. Good makes we've found are SunSense and UV Triplegard. You can buy sun cream at any pharmacy or grocery store/supermarket and it's not any more or less expensive than you will pay in the UK. You can in fact pick up SunSense in the UK now and their tinted face moisturiser/sun cream is great, as its not greasy and gives a nice 'base' (I feel as if I am writing for a women's magazine now!).

Please don't underestimate how strong the sun is in Australia. You might get away with factor 15 over here or on your hols in the Med, but I usually don't step outside with anything less than factor 30 slathered on in Australia (and even then I usually have factor 50 on my face). You will still tan I can assure you and save yourself looking like a lobster pom in the meantime!
And wear a hat! I do, and don't care how silly I look...as you can see...!! |
